The name is a play on words: the Spanish for “I love you” (“te quiero”) merges with the labelling for leather (“el cuero”). And the love of the leather is great: Marlies and her son Aladin offer handmade belts, handbags, wallets, shoes and much more. When it first opened over 30 years ago it was the second business in Santa Gertrudis. The neighbourhood is tight-knit here surrounding the village square – cheese boxes from the Bar Costa next door are painted by Marlies with leather colour and keep their tools safe.
