There is surfing and there is surfing at One Eye. Here, an exposed reef break boasts consistent surf with groundswells that are more frequent than wind swells. Know that the ideal swell direction is from the southwest and the best wind direction is from the east-southeast, typically around high tide. Also know that it can be crowded at One Eye, and keeping two eyes on locals and on sharks is well advised. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing here—though best left to professionals.
