The route of the “Red Lightning”, Mallorca’s historic narrow-gauge railway, stretches from Palma to Port de Sóller. The breathtaking ride goes over mountains up to nearly 200 m high, over viaducts, several bridges and through 13 tunnels. The island’s first electric railway has been running along the same route since 1913. Whilst the original wagons are now used exclusively for transporting people, back then they mainly carried fresh produce such as oranges and seafood from the fertile island valley. For a shorter excursion, hop on the tram in Sóller towards Port de Sóller.
