ZASH COUNTRY BOUTIQUE HOTEL
PHOTOS MAPS

The former winery, set amidst rambling citrus groves in eastern Sicily, seems as if it were a painting. These walls were renovated in 2013, with a concrete, glass, and volcanic stone annex added on to make room for a total of nine rooms and suites. Historic fragments contrast with contemporary minimalism throughout. The manor offers views of the Ionian Sea or of Mount Etna, while the cubic addition brings the lush gardens within. Architect Antonio Iraci took his cues from Sicily’s enchanting countryside: the scent of ripe oranges and lemons, the silver shimmer of the olive trees, and the local grapevines. The fertile soil comes from the lava flows of the nearby volcano, making the region a living Garden of Eden.
