The sandstone façade of the Ritz-Carlton on Potsdamer Platz was inspired by the Art Deco design of 1920s American skyscrapers. Its interior is the epitome of splendor. More than 30 pounds of gold leaf were used; innumerable crystal chandeliers illuminate the lobby and the 303 guest rooms. The grand staircase in the lobby is perfect for a splashy entrance—eminently practical, considering that many star-studded movie premieres take place at the Sony Center next door.
