SERRA CAFEMA
PHOTOS MAPS

Like a seemingly endless oasis, the Cunene River snakes through some of the driest and most unforgiving regions in the world, bringing water to the Namib Desert. Thus, the river brings life. On its fertile banks, the Serra Cafema Camp’s eight 2,000 sq. ft. canvas-and-reed chalets exude an air of unpretentious luxury, with heavy drapery, indoor/outdoor showers, wicker furnishings, and hammocks, all elevated on a wooden platform. Kaokoveld enchants with its sand dunes, mountain ranges, river valleys, and its diverse fauna. Not only are visitors here completely disconnected from any tourist hoards. And apart from the Himba tribe, one of the last nomadic peoples on the continent, there is little sign of any civilization. They have called this region home for centuries, and their culture and woodcraft serving as inspiration for the chalets’ design.
