This posh resort in the Dominican Republic has big plans: Cap Cana wants to become the Monte Carlo of the Caribbean. Located just a few minutes from the international airport of Punta Cana, its beach is as white as the sand bunkers on the fabulous Punta Espada golf course, designed by champion Jack Nicklaus; two further Nicklaus courses are in the works. Punta Espada is already considered a classic: On hole 13, a par 3, there’s nothing but deep-blue ocean between the tee and the flag. For those who prefer to enjoy water without the sand, the large resort boasts a selection of five different pools. A further highlight is the spa treatments, which, if desired, can even be enjoyed right at the lagoon. Even the wine cellar is unique with thousands of fine bottles from France, Italy, and the United States.
