A journey to the roots of humanity that’s the feeling you get from the Earth Lodge in the Sabi Sand Nature Preserve. The structural ideas came from nature. The 13 guest houses are sunk so far into the ground that they are not visible at first. Not until a guest enters the lobby does a broad panorama of the magnificent bush landscape become visible. The walls are treated with clay and straw and evoke the deeply furrowed skin of elephants; everything is soft and rounded, as in nature. The rooms present unusual wooden sculptures fashioned from driftwood by renowned South African artist Geoffrey Armstrong.
