MARITIME
PHOTOS MAPS

History has given The Maritime, situated on the border between the club mile at the Meat Packing District and the gallery quarter Chelsea, its name: It was built for the National Maritime Union. Thus the architect used portholes as windows to reflect the seamen’s topic. In 2003 it was reopened as luxury boutique hotel in a retro-modern style. In the following years, the Maritime has often served as blue print for newer boutique hotels, but remains a unique experience. For New York standards, the rooms are fairly big and remind of a captain’s cabin, dominated by ocean blue. The hotel has an elevated plaza, a garden with pond and lily pads, two restaurants (Italian and Japanese cuisine), and the requisite patio with roof bar and a view of the Hudson River.
