It’s impossible for a landscape to be more dramatic: The Colca Canyon in South Peru cuts 3267 meters deep through the rugged Andes. The unique ecosystem is habitat for many species including the mighty Condor. The constructors of Casitas del Colca (opened in 2008) minimized the disruption of this habitat as much as possible. The 20 guesthouses were built with local materials. Fruits and vegetables are grown in the hotel’s gardens, and organic waste is composted and recycled.
