KAYA MAWA LODGE
PHOTOS MAPS

Visiting Likoma is like traveling back in time. The larger of two islands in Lake Malawi Mozambique, this island was colonized by Anglican missionaries in the 19th century, who left a cathedral in the style of Westminster Abbey as a token of remembrance. Until recently, the island was only reachable by a steamboat from the 1920s. Today, there’s only one dirt road and two vehicles on the entire island. Kaya Mawa means “maybe tomorrow” in the language of the Chewa; promising, when one considers our hectic, overly-planned lifestyles. The lodges that make up this resort hug a crescent-shaped beach in the Southwest of the island. Each are hand constructed from materials like teak, stone, and reed, granting the spaces a rustic, authentic appeal.
