Okay, you probably won’t run into many locals in the cafés surrounding the Grote Markt in the historic centre. The restaurants – and the prices – are geared towards tourists. But an aperitif in the afternoon sun with views of the glimmering guildhalls from the 16th and 17th centuries and the late-Gothic city hall is worth a visit. The square represents Antwerp’s fascinating trade history and is a great starting point to explore the rest of the city.
