From the ceiling-high window façade of the lobby of the Forest Lodge you have a splendid view of Walker Bay, South Africa’s El Dorado of whale watching when the giant marine creatures—weighing up to 40 tons—swim by during the autumn months. With its 16 luxury suites, the Lodge is situated in a 1.750-hectare nature reserve in the middle of the fynbos, as the unique vegetation on the Cape is called. There are over 745 different plant species. Owner Michael Lutzeyer set up a foundation tasked with protecting the valuable fynbos flora while including the guests in the project.
