This English fairytale castle is situated on a high plateau in the Bavarian Alps. It overlooks lush rolling meadows where gentian blooms in outrageous abundance in late May. Wetterstein Mountain crags and the Zugspitze provide dramatic mountain scenery. Almost a century ago, Lady Mary Portman from London turned her dream into this reality. Later, the Kranzbach was made into a hotel in 2007. The historic building with its typical stepped gables evoking Scotland was given a modern garden wing made of wood and glass, housing a light-filled spa and spacious modern rooms.
