The interior of the Lodge resembles an opulent and eccentric stage production: crystal chandeliers on the ceilings, heavy red velvet drapes on the windows, slipcovers of elegant fabrics over chairs. And this is in buildings based on the traditional round huts of the Massai. No less spectacular is the setting at the very edge of the Ngorongoro Crater at an elevation of 2,000 meters, one of Tanzania’s primary attractions. Even the freestanding bathtubs afford an expansive view of the crater’s fascinating verdant terrain. When you ride the 600 meters down to the crater floor, you can experience two vegetation zones at once.
