BAYERISCHER HOF
PHOTOS MAPS

Desiring to create accommodations for high-ranking guests, in 1839, King Ludwig I commissioned Friedrich von Gärtner to build the Bayerischer Hof on Promenadeplatz in the heart of Munich. In 1972, the adjacent Palais Montgelas became part of the hotel, whose guest list reads like a Who’s Who. Since only those who don’t rest on their laurels are truly successful, general manager Innegrit Volkhardt—the fourth generation Volkhardt to run the hotel—had French star designer Andrée Putman build the Blue Spa on top of the hotel, complete with an elegant rooftop terrace from which the towers of the Frauenkirche seem just an arm’s reach away.
