The desert landscape of the southwestern United States, where Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona meet, has an exotic and overwhelming beauty. No less breathtaking is the design and architecture of the Amanresort, which opened in 2009 and nestles against a bizarre rock formation. From the central pavilion, two flat axes of the building extend into the desert. Sandy hues make the resort meld into the desert terrain. The dominant desert theme is also found in the materials used in the 34 suites: leather, sandstone, and honey-colored woods. Sight lines afford spectacular vistas of rock formations all the way to the Grand Staircase.
